Elijah had a past relationship. He let her go to
be with a human so that she could continue
her witch line. He now has a father figure type
protectiveness for Katie. Katie is Clara's double
after all. He is also the one who told Katie about Stefan.

daren family

The Daren family are a family of witches and hunters who have been around for a very long time. The way the Daren line works is that in every generation there is one boy followed by one girl born to the female of the generation. The boys become hunters, there to protect their sisters, and the girls are witches. The brother's job is to protect his sister so the line and continue on. The sisters in the family gain the memories of their previous life's to help them with the current one.

However this set of Daren siblings is different, Josh had a daughter, MacKenzie. This has only happened once before, to the first siblings of the Daren line, Clara and Hugh. Clara, witch who is a past life of Katie's and the most powerful of their line, cared for her brother's daughter whilst he was off protecting the world of the supernatural... just like Katie is guardian of MacKenzie.

Josh and Katie were mostly raised by their gran, who has recently died, and their hunter Uncle Ryan. Their mother Ella Daren was killed whilst on a hunt with Ryan in 1997. Since then the while family have tried to move on. Unknown to them, Ella was actually turned into a vampire and has been watching over her family from afar for all this time. Their father, Andrew McDonald, died just before Ella found out she was pregnant with Katie. As far as everyone is aware, Katie was the daughter of Andrew...

Older brother to Katie, Josh has been hunting
for years. Josh is from a long line of hunters
and an ancient brotherhood that is sworn to
protect the Daren witches. He recently got the
news his ex had died so, unable to leave his daughter
has came to stay with his sister whilst he looks
for her killer. He knows that his daughter will come
into her powers soon. His middle name was in
honour of his father's best friend, George.

SOPHIA BUSH, TWENTY-NINE, WITCH, STORE OWNER

She is 29 years old and a witch. Her path has
been an odd one. Like her brother, she moved
away from town a lot, this was due to her family
having to move about. However after the recent
death of her grandmother, she moved back, along
with her niece and took over her gran’s store.

mackenzie ----- daren
LUCY HALE, SIXTEEN, WITCH, STUDENT

Up to the age of 11, Mac lived with her mother.
When she turned 12, her mother was killed
and mac was sent to live with her aunt whilst
her father looked for her mother's killer. Mac and
her aunt Katie get along really well. They
recently moved from D.C. back to Katie and
Josh's home town of Mystic Falls.
Mac is a witch but is unaware of it at the moment.
Her powers are just starting to show. She is
sure something is odd about their town,
but doesn't expect it to be supernatural!

ROBERT CARLYLE, MID TO LATE FIFTIES, HUNTER, PROFESSOR

Ryan is a skilled hunter and occult specialist.
He, like the rest of his family, is Scottish and
is from a long line of hunters, Ryan was married,
but his wife, Alana, was killed by a hunter who
mistook her for a vampire. He has never told
anyone but he killed the hunter out of revenge
for his lost love. He doesn't usually speak about
her to anyone. Ryan would rather study the
supernatural so he can better understand it,
rather than shoot it and it's dead. He took over
as guardian for Katie and Josh since they were
quite young and has been training Josh ever since.
He is closer to Josh as he's spent more time with
him, however he'll defend Katie like she was his
own daughter.

RACHEL WEISZ, FIFTY ONE/LOOKS LATE THIRTIES, VAMPIRE (FORMER WITCH)

After becoming a vampire, she watched over
her kids but stayed dead to them. She's now ready
to help her children with the next step of their lives.
She is also aware that she has a secret that could
come out about one of her children, Katie's
biological father's identity.
