Pretty things, that's what her store would be filled with... an old brooch in a glass display along with the fresh water pearls and the antique gents watch. Then over next to the old dressmakers dummy a large mirror that had seen it all. Over the opposite side from the large sun filled window there was space for her tapestry she got last month from a sell in Silverstone, two towns over. Through the small archway there was space for lotions, hand made ones from a local family who did make the most healing and wonderful lotions... and a space for new stock, for when it was mother's day, or a birthday. Her store was unique, and very Katie... however it was still at the moment, an empty shell with a TON of boxes through the back.
In the small room in the back was big enough that it would be for all the witch craft things that the town needed. And in the back, locked away, would be for the heavy duty stuff, the things only people who knew what they were talking about would need. Katie was looking forward to getting the store sorted, however right now, there was just a sea of boxes. She'd be happy once her store was looking like it did before. Katie had photos of the store going back years, decades. Daren's had been opening stores all over the world and Katie had photos of a lot of them. And oddly they all look alike.
Katie hadn't been back in town for long. Two weeks? A month? She had found out about the store being for sale a long time ago, when her gran died, no one had wanted to take it over. However back then it had been called Clara's. Katie took off the sweater she'd been wearing, it may no be the heat of summer, but wow it was hot. She'd opened the window to let some air in, the cool air flushed in and seemed to dance around the shop, wanting to play with her and all the papers around the store. She drank some of the water from her mini fridge before eyeing up the mirror she wanted to put up in the store, behind the cash desk. It was heavy but Katie was stronger than your normal woman. This mirror was special. The mirror had been given to her mother from her gran. It was inscribed on the back with their family tree, like a secret that only the owner knew about. That mirror had seen a lot, more than most, more than Katie knew as well. She was once told that the wood the frame was made from was the wood that had been Clara Daren's first crib. She wasn't sure it was true, but it was a nice thought.
Just as she lifted the mirror the little bell above the door rung out she smiled, "Sorry we aren't open ye-." She said as she turned around to see who it was as best she could but frowned as the mirror she'd been moving fell against her foot, she squealed and moved away, "I'm fine..." She shrugged with a now forced smile due to the pain. Katie moved the mirror and limped over to the counter, "Can I help you? I mean we aren't open yet but I can try help."

Saying that that Elena was suffering with Stefan being gone, and Damon trying to get her to admit her feelings for him was an understatement. She didn't need this, but she could not help but feel guilty for feeling even the slightest of anything other than friendship towards Damon. Finding Stefan was only a distraction from what she actually felt, but she couldn't admit to it. Elena did not want to loose either of the brothers, but choosing one over the other would just drive the other one away. Was it really that selfish for her to want them both around? The last thing she wanted to be like was Katherine, but the way she seemed to be stringing Damon along, just made it harder and harder for her to come to terms with what she actually felt. She thought her life could not get any worse when her parents died, but this emotional torture she was going through was making her life a lot harder. There was Jeremy to look after, and then there was Alaric who is a mess after the death of Jenna, but who was there to worry about Elena? She didn't like to burden Damon with anymore issues then she already had, so who else did she have to turn to? [break] [break] It was late morning as Elena shoved her feet into her shoes, said goodbye to Jeremy and left the house to head into town. She didn't exactly have any plans with any of her friends today, or any with Damon but she needed time alone. Maybe she could find someone to talk to who wasn't involved, at all, in the mess she was in. All she craved right now was some sort of mundane conversation that could just remove herself from her mess of a life she was living, even if it was just for a few hours. At least that was better than spending her time following a lead to Stefan that would probably end in a dead end. Every single lead they, or should she say Damon, had found had ended up as a dead end and for a while there seemed to be nothing that they could properly follow. Throughout all of this, Elena had never once even thought about giving up. She couldn't, because Stefan had sacrificed himself to save her, and the least she could do was repay him in the same way. She still loved him, no matter what feelings she could possibly have for Damon. [break] [break] It was not until she saw her father's old shop did her day dream of what her life was turning into come to a stop. At first it was the memories of her parents that made her stop, but it was the shop next to it that caught her attention. Caroline had been going on about something about a new shop being built, but Elena was too distracted by the lead Damon had told her about that day for her to be paying attention to Caroline's endless conversations. Not that Caroline would notice that Elena was not paying attention, she would be too engrossed in her planning of another party, or who owned the new shop for her to realize. [break] [break] Curiously, Elena made her way forward, towards the shop, and cautiously pushed open the door. If there was someone new here, she was more than happy to welcome them into the neighborhood. "Hello?.." Elena said softly. She turned her head toward the voice that responded, but then ran forward to help when the mirror fell on her foot. "You're not fine!" Elena said, running over to help support the woman as she limped over to the counter. "I just heard you were new in town, and my friend was talking about a new shop opening." Her tone was sweet, far from what it had been over the past few months after Stefan left. "Wasn't the same shop in Mystic falls a few decades ago. I did this paper on the history of Mystic falls a few months back, and I remember reading about a shop with the same name!"

Katie smiled at the you girl, “It’s fine… I’m so accident prone it’s ridiculous.” She laughed with the girl and moved the mirror with the girl before moving over to the counter after the mirror was secure. Katie wasn’t too accident prone but for the sake of lessening the girl’s guilt it was worth it. She smiled at her warmly. “Thanks. I knew I should have waited to fix that mirror up there.” The witch smiled. As the girl helped her, Katie took a moment to sense the girl, she didn’t get any vampire or wolf vibes, however there was something about her. It wasn’t witch magic, but it was something, something not quite human. Katie shook off the feeling though as she didn’t sense a threat, in fact she felt he exact opposite from the girl. She was probably school age, senior or there abouts and she seemed nice enough, quick to help out anyway.
When Elena told her she’d heard that Katie was new in town she smirked, “New, sort of.” She told her with a laugh. “I lived here when I was younger, about your age, I went to Mystic Falls high school for a bit. Then I moved away, haven’t really been back since my gran died.” She told Elena, unsure why she felt the need to tell her that much detail. Truth was the Daren’s had lived in town on and off for a while, since Clara Daren in the 1500s. “As for the shop, yeah I thought I’d restore it to its former glory.” Katie knew the store had been other things, however to her it would always be the Daren’s store. In fact she even had the old record books dating back decades and photos as well. It was like their own antiques, ones she’d never sell though. Family ones. Katie smiled as she stood after resting her foot for a moment.
When Elena mentioned the shop Katie nodded. Her gran and her gran before her had owned the Bella’s antiques. When Katie’s gran got ill, the store closed and was sold off to someone else. In the distant past, Clara Daren, the first magical witch of their line, had opened the store, every so often the female of the family would open it back up again. “Yeah, a while back. We Daren’s pop up in town every so often and open our store. More recently my gran owned it a few years back, I thought since I was moving back and it was vacant, I’d open it once again.” She smiled, “Antiques are always fun, history is an interest.” She told her and looked at the sign of the shop name, “A long time ago it was called Bella’s Antiques too.” Katie smiled, “I’m Katie, Katie Daren.” Katie introduced herself to Elena. She did wonder if Elena would have came across her niece, obviously MacKenzie was younger than Elena, but still at the same school.

"I'm the same.." Elena said, smiling back at the woman. The accidents Elena were talking about were more serious than what the woman was probably talking about, but somehow Elena was the one that always ended up in trouble with something. She finished helping the woman moving the mirror, and then watched as the woman made her way over to the counter. "Well, if you're anything like me, than you're too stubborn to let anyone help you!" Elena laughed softly, glancing down to the mirror and then back up to the woman. The woman did not seem dangerous, but neither did Stefan when she first met him and it would not be shock to her if she turned out to be a supernatural creature. She was one herself, but not in the same sense as some of her friends were. Elena was the least threatening supernatural creature that could exist, yet so many species wanted her, for one reason or another. [break] [break] As soon as the woman mentioned her grandmothers death, she instantly felt a sense of guilt for asking about her history. Elena had lost so many people herself, that she completely understood if the woman did not want to talk about her grandmother. "I'm sorry about your grandmother.." She said, empathetically now unsure what to say anymore in case she upset the woman. That was the last thing she wanted to do right now. "I'd be glad to see this place back up and running. This part of town has become pretty run down over the past year or so!" After her parent's death and the closing of her father's shop, business had dropped around this part of town. Elena had assumed people did not want to be associated, or reminded of, her parents because it just hurt to much. Although, that was not what she wanted because it just made the death of her parents that much more obvious, and more of a reminder that they are gone. [break] [break] "This town is full of history. Some you may not want to know about, but still interesting.." Maybe if the woman's family had lived here for so many generations they would know about the supernatural, but it was too big a risk to take to mention anything. There was the risk of hunters being around this town, and she could not risk any of her friends lives simply to make conversation. "My ancestors journals ha mentioned that store name a couple of times. They had gone in there to buy a couple of rings.. No idea why though.." Elena played dumb, knowing full well that the rings were used as daylight rings."I'm Elena Gilbert!" Elena said, smiling. "You don't happen to be related to Mackenzie Darren, do you?" Elena did not know Mackenzie personally, but had heard about her from some of her friends who were in the same year as her.
