Katie pushed the front door of the home she and her family shared. She'd been at the shop and then went to see one of her friends at the Grill. Over the last few weeks Katie was well aware that Mac had been starting to feel her powers no doubt. One thing you could set your watch by was the Daren power reveal. Mackenzie, as far as she was aware, was doing well in school and everything and Katie had, for now, finally the store was going well and busy. Whilst in the Grill she'd met up with Bonnie as well to touch base with er a little. She had promised Sheila that she'd look out for Bonnie, and that was a promise she'd not break. When she'd met Bonnie she'd told her that Mac had been absent from class, after checking Katie found out that she'd been absent for the last two classes. that wasn't like MacKenzie, she was focused, driven, mature, more mature than Katie at times, it wasn't like her.
As she got home the first time, no one was in yet. Katie looked at the stairs and there was a lack of Mac's bookbag, considering she had left school early, it worried Katie that she wasn't home yet. As she was about to call her niece, Harley came bounding up and showered her in love. "Okay boy, walkies..." she smiled and took her dog out for his walk. She was sure that Mac was fine, she'd properly stayed late at the library or something. As she walked through the woods, Katie took in the nature around her, she could see why her former life built a house here. It was on the edge of the woods and the town, it was just far enough away from the river that you could, on a good day, hear the water, and the hills... they rolled away in the distance. She felt something though, a pull... Katie looked up to the sky and then back to the house as she sighed, Mac was home.
It was a funny thing, Katie was always able to feel when her family were near. She could feel their presence or their aura... she didn't know, but with Mac she knew that she was home and she was confused. When she pushed the door open and looked at the bottom of the stairs, book bag. Katie paused and saw Mackenzie sitting on the sofa. The aunt put Harley's lead onto the table and looked to her niece as she frowned, "Hey Mac, you okay? Spoke to the school earlier, about something not you related... I heard you weren't in school last two periods." She said cautiously. Katie didn't want her to think she was angry, more concerned. And she didn't want Mac to think people were telling tales or whatever, Katie knew that she had friends at the school so it was totally possible that could happen.

'Cause your a force of nature look at what you've done I can taste the dangerMackenzie’s life had once been a peaceful existence, one filled with normality. Her mother, a woman that had always been there for Mackenzie and had always been a friend for her, was dead. Her father, a man that she recently got to know, was looking for the killer, or so she still hoped. And then there was her, Aunt Katie, she wasn’t her mother, but she was getting there. She got along with the older woman; saw her as a friend and she trusted her completely. But ever since living with Katie, weird things began happening with Mackenzie. She began to feel weird, but she didn’t let it affect her. But as the feeling grew, the more curious she felt, but she was scared. Scared to learn the answers, and scared to ask her, Aunt Katie, the reason for her feeling so weird. But that didn’t mean that she didn’t want to know what was happening to her.
Maybe the feeling was the reason for her skipping her last two classes at school. Sure she knew that people would notice her disappearance, but it didn’t matter. Sure she wasn’t one to do such a thing, but she had a reason. She swallowed; Katie was going to be mad at her for not going to those last two classes, for doing something so out of character. She just hoped that her aunt would listen to her reasoning. That was another reason that she stayed late in the library, reading different books and studying for her math test that she had the next day. She had been trying to figure out what the feeling was, typing in what she was feeling into a search bar at the school and coming up with nothing. Not even some of the medical books she had read had anything to answer her questions. That only left one thing…either asking Katie or going to the doctors. While she would have done the latter, she felt that Katie might know the answers. Now was all about asking…and how.
She had gotten home a little later than usually, pushing open the door and looked around. “Aunt Katie?” she called out, but there was no answer. With a quick shrug of her shoulders, she placed her bag on the normal spot, at the bottom of the stairs and walked towards the sofa. Realizing in that moment that Harley wasn’t around, she concluded that Katie was walking the dog. She sunk into the seat, pulling her feet underneath her legs and clicking on the television, but just as she did the door opened and Harley came bouncing in, Katie following behind her. Mackenzie laughed when she noticed Harley wagging his tail and jumping onto the table, leaning forward she began to pet the dog with a soft laugh as the creature licked her cheek.
‘Hey Mac, you okay? Spoke to the school earlier, about something, not you related... I heard you weren't in school last two periods.’
Mackenzie’s eyes flashed up towards her aunt, the attention moving from Harley to Katie, and much to the dog's dismay. She nodded her head, “I’m fine.” she said with a soft smile, one that ended with a sigh before shaking her head. “I—I’ve been feeling weird lately,” she spoke as she leaned back on the sofa “I tried to find answers, lost track of time.” | WORD COUNT 562 NOTES: Sorry for the short wait, hope this works! Katie frowned as soon as she heard Mackenzie’s voice. “Hey, hey… It’s okay, I’m not mad or anything.” She comforted the teenage and sat next to her when she mentioned feeling weird. She put her hand on the other side of Mac’s head and kissed her temple then stroked her hair whilst attempting to sooth her without going overboard. As Mac explained she’d attempted to find answers, Katie didn’t need to ask the question, she knew both answers and questions. Katie let out a sigh as she pulled away from the embrace she and Mac had ended up in. The witch took out her cell and text her brother, 'It’s started. Come home soon.’ She frowned as she put the cell down and grabbed an old box that Katie had kept in full view of everything, and Mac probably never thought about.
The box was old, wooden, craved with beautiful cravings of nature and everything that represented it. She had it in plain view as she knew that Mac wouldn’t be able to open it if she tried. Katie stood and moved it onto the coffee table and she sat back on the sofa. Katie had been silent this whole time and she knew it was probably killing the young girl. She cleared her throat and smiled at Mac, “I know you have been feeling weird. When I was your age I went through it, so did your gran and your great gran and every Daren woman before you. And not in an older patronising way like you may think. Has anything else been happening? Like things exploding? Or you thinking you’re a little psychic or empathic?” She said and took a breath to let the questions sink in. “Mackenzie, I need you to let me finish before you say anything. Okay? I need to tell you about our family, about the Daren line.”
Katie opened the large metal lock with a wave of her hand and pulled it closer to her. “MacKenzie you are a witch. As in grab a broom and ride with me witch. Well we can’t actually fly brooms… I think. I’m not sure actually - I’ve never tried.” Katie frowned, she’d never tried and wondered if she could or not, clearly that was something to try when she’d probably had a few beers later. “Sorry, back to us, so I’m a witch, my mum was a witch, gran was a witch. Our family, every woman, every sister, we are witches.” She told her and took out an old photo from the box. It was a photo of Clara and Faye, she kept it to her chest for now. “That’s not all. Our family, the woman have all lived before. We have past lives. Once our powers start to show we gain power and then memories from the lives we have lived before.” She sighed, “I know this is a lot, but your 16 and at 16 most of us find out.” She said and handed her the photo of Faye and Clara. “That’s us.... sort of... it's a version of us in 1576.” Katie told her. “You are from a long line of powerful witches. I mean powerful enough to create a spell that no other witch line has.” Katie smiled and leaned forward to the candle on the table and blew softly on the unlit candle. She smirked as it lit up and the fire rested, flickering happily. “It’s scary and shocking and unbelievable - but you know in your heart there has always been something about you, about us that you’ve never been able to explain fully - this is it.”
