Katie is a rebel. She is both colourful and unpredictable. Her energy and love of life are stimulating.She loves being the centre of attention and never goes unnoticed. Katie is impatient and always look for action. Speaking her mind when upset and has a suspicious nature. But in spite of her quick tempers, she is sincere, generous and very affectionate. Katie also possesses a great sense of humour. She likes people, involvement,and dedication to humanitarian causes. Always one to seek out adventures, and at certain points in her life, she'll be very rebellious. Katie has to act out some of her ideals and lash out at the wrongs of society. Katie is so daring that she can acquire many admirers. Those who disapprove of what Katie does still will secretly admire her for her actions. When Katie is injured she demands all-out sympathy. Logic does not appeal to her. She just wants to be comforted. Always willing to listen sincerely to the advice you give, and then she'll do exactly as she pleases. Since she has a lot of spunk, no matter how down and out Katie gets, she'll never give up. After all she can always start over again. Tread lightly and don't hurt her feelings, she may never forgive you! Katie is romantic, passionate, and playful. She is also extremely jealous and possessive. If she does not learn to control her emotions, she could cause herself much trouble. Katie's life is full of emotional situations, but she loves it that way. She loves life and want to live it to the fullest.

Katie was born in Mystic Falls but her mother took her and her brother, Josh, to Scotland soon after her birth. Her birth father is unknown, she never met him and never really asked about him to begin with. From what Josh has told her, Katie is aware her father was George Walker who was killed just before she was born due to a car accident. Katie is the younger of the two siblings and she spent her childhood in Glasgow, Scotland. She lived with her mom and brother with her Uncle Ryan popping in every so often. She would travel back to her birth town to visit her gran who still lived there. Her uncle travelled a lot and would always bring her things back from the places he visited. He was an archaeologist and a professor of such. He specialised in occult symbols and history, something which most of the men in the Daren family seemed to do.
When she was 13 her mother died whilst away with Uncle Ryan and their grandmother. Katie never found out what happened to her mother, but she suspects it had to do with their family's past and the supernatural games that everyone seemed to play these days. She went to live with her Uncle Ryan for most of her life between the ages of 13 and 16. After moving in their uncle the Daren children saw a lot more of the world. They went to America, Europe, Asia. Their uncle's work took them everywhere, and it was during this time when Katie's witch powers seemed to come through. Katie learned that due to her family's heritage, there was always one witch in each generation, generally the only girl. Since the early records of their family this has been the case. There always seems to be a male, then a female born. Like the brother was there to protect the witch from whatever went bump in the night.
Due to her escalating interest and powers, at 16 Katie went to live for a few years with her gran, who had moved back to Scotland. She found out she was from a powerful witch line and the powers she had within her. She was a fast learner and her gran knew that with time the young girl's thirst for knowledge about wicca and the craft was familiar, it reminded her of their ancestor, the original witch of her family, Clara Daren. Someone who Katie bore a striking resemblance to. When Katie was 17 she was told by her gran about the supernatural world to the level it is at. She found out about it all, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, hunters and the rest, and that they, as witches, had a part to play, but it was up to Katie to choose her own place amongst it all. She chose to progress with the teachings of her heritage, of her craft and to be placed as part of nature.
Katie later found out that she was to receive a special gift on turning 18, she would receive the knowledge of her past lives. Every generation of Daren women got the memories of their previous life's to help them grow their magic and connection to nature and their heritage. When she turned 18 her gran and the other witches of similar covens started a ritual in which Katie was granted with more than 500 years of past memories. She found out she was the reincarnation of the first witch of her line. She had lived the life of Clara Daren and many others who followed. In her previous life's she'd been all over the world to begin with, long ago. She even started to notice that she looked the same as her past lives, not exactly the same, but very similar.
Also at 18 Katie once again went back to America to do a degree in psychology but kept in contact with her family and she also kept up her craft practising. She made several friends and contacts within the academic circle and discovered that there were other subjects, other avenues for her to go down to help her with her craft, her past, she went for it and started her life in the academic circuit. She switched to occult studies and history and started to research her own past as well as others.
Whilst in America she met up with her brother and after showing him how far she'd come along with her powers since he left. The siblings were still close, they had kept in touch and regularly kept up to date with each other. Josh had become a hunter, he hunted most things that went bump in the night. Often he'd contact her for advice of the legends and such that she had access to as both a witch and a scholar.
During her time away, her grandmother moved to America, to New Orleans first, then Mystic Falls. When Katie turned 24 her gran got ill so Katie came back to help with her store in Mystic Falls (which sold lotions, homeopathic remedies, charms, jewellery) and around the house. Her gran was also helped by her gran's friend and fellow witch, Sheila Bennett. Katie learned a lot from Sheila, some people in the town thought she was nuts, but Katie liked her. she was powerful and full of knowledge. She also briefly met Shelia's grandaughter, Bonnie. She knew of the Bennett line and she knew that the girl would have a crazy life ahead, however Katie didn't realise how crazy it would get.
At this time she met up with her Uncle Ryan and Josh, however her brother wasn't too happy about the arrangement. Her expertise in the occult was needed so Ryan had called her, without Josh knowing. The three went to find a pack of werewolves that had information her uncle wanted. They arrived a little late, and all they found was dead bodies.
At 25 Katie had realised that everything she'd seen she needed to get away from this life, this supernatural life. She up and left and headed to Washington DC and soon joined the FBI. She had several connections thanks to her Uncle and his line of work, so she used them to become an agent. She did very well within the Bureau however soon noticed that she constantly got the 'weird' cases. When she was 29 she was moved to a case where there had been occult symbols found in their hundreds in a cave system. She had investigated, along with several others and soon found that in fact there were witches in the area, but it had been a cult following who had created the need for the FBI to get involved. It was the first time she realised that she was looking for supernatural cases in her work, she missed her old life... her old self.
Sadly when she was 30, her gran died due to a cancer which she'd not told anyone about. Katie blamed herself for not being able to help her. Katie first refused to believe it was as normal as cancer, she looked for a supernatural reason, but there wasn't one...Katie went to bury her gran and told her work she needed time, she turned in her badge and wanted to leave. Her boss gave her 6 months to make up her mind. So when Katie found out that vampires, werewolves, originals and the likes were alive and very much about in Mystic Falls she headed back there. She took up the lease for her grandmother's former store and the home that her and her brother sometimes used, for the next six months she'll make a choice, embrace who and what she is, or go back to DC and turn her back on her past and what she really is.
Recently Katie and Josh found out that Josh has a daughter, MacKenzie. It is unheard of for the Daren men to have a child. The last time a Daren brother had a child it was Clara Daren's brother, Hugh. He had a daughter, Freya Daren, who is a past life of MacKenzie's. MacKenzie's mother died two years ago and now that Katie is staying in Mystic Falls, MacKenzie is living with her whilst Josh looks for his ex's killer. Katie knows that MacKenzie doesn't necessarily know about the supernatural, but she does know that she most likely is a witch and will gain powers at some point.
